About NetApp
Leading organizations worldwide count on NetApp for software, systems and services to manage and store their data. Customers value our teamwork, expertise and passion for helping them succeed now and into the future.

NetApp offers two different data-at-rest encryption solutions for securing data within their instrastructure. Both solutions support the OASIS Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) for managing the storage and use of keys, thus providing a seamless integration with SafeNet AT’s KeySecure for Government KMIP-compliant key management platform.

  • NetAppStorage Encryption (NSE) is a hardware-based solutions industry-standard self-encrypting drives (SEDs) to implement full-disk encryption.
  • NetApp Volume Encryption (NVE) is a software-based technology for encrypting data-at-rest one volume at a time.

  • NetApp Storage Encryption (NSE) and KeySecure for Government

NetApp Storage Encryption (NSE) utilizes industry-standard self-encrypting drives (SEDs) for implementing full-disk encryption. NSE is a nondisruptive, hardware-based encryption solution that is cost-effective, transparent to the user, and simple to deploy. When used with SafeNet AT’s KeySecure for Government for key management, NSE securely stores the authentication keys used to unlock the SEDS in a FIPS 140-2 Level 2 or Level 3 certified device that can centrally manage all keys across an enterprise.

  • NetApp Volume Encryption (NVE) and KeySecure for Government

NetApp Volume Encryption (NVE) is a software-based, data-at-rest encryption solution that is KMIP-compliant with NetApp ONTAP® version 9.3 and up.   It encrypts at the individual volume level.  Utilzing NVE with SafeNet AT’s KMIP-compliant KeySecure for Government key manager provides a FIPS 14-2 Level 2 or 3 hardware-based security solution that can centrally manage keys across the entire NVE infrastructure.
